The San Diego Museum of Art is the oldest and largest museum in the area. On show at the gallery is a fine selection of European old masters, 19th and 20th century American art, contemporary, Latin American and Asian artworks. The museum also frequently hosts major art exhibitions from around the globe. The San Diego Museum of Art also prides itself on its extensive schedule of supportive cultural and educational projects.

Providing a rich and diverse cultural experience, The San Diego Museum of Art is located in the heart of the beautiful Balboa Park. Exhibitions are open monthly and there are daily docent and audio tours to offer you further insight into the works on display in the museum. You can stop and have a quick bite to eat in the Sculpture Court Café and shop at the Museum store. If you choose to arrive in the evening, know that the galleries are open until 7:00 PM every Friday and that you are welcome to come and celebrate our quarterly event on Culture & Cocktails. Annually, the San Diego Museum of Art also hosts the Art Alive Celebration.

You will find many famous names here such as Dali, Rembrandt, Canova, Miro, Goya, Bouguereau, Murillo and even Giotto. One thing you will not find here is velvet ropes and Plexiglas shields. The San Diego Museum of Art welcomes you to closely inspect the artwork on display by maintaining an appropriate distance, with your hands behind your back.

The building itself is much larger on the inside than it appears from outside. If you choose to come for our Culture & Cocktails event, you will be excited to know that there will be drinks, terrific hors d’oeuvres, beautiful musical accompaniment and a very intelligent docent to take you through the exhibit. Be sure to visit the ‘Asian Court’ a newly remodeled section of The San Diego Museum of Art, featuring gorgeous galleries and cutting edge room designs created specifically to show off the incredible artwork.

Parking for the museum is free, and if you really enjoy your time at the San Diego Museum of Art, you could even purchase a membership in order to enjoy free admission, and more member perks!
