The San Diego History Center is a must see area for visitors and locals. This museum is laced with rich facts about different parts of San Diego’s history. The exhibits are constantly changing and addressing different aspects of the past. There is also a large permanent collection of photographs and objects that are always on display. When you visit the area, this is one stop that should make it on your list.

 

Photographs at the San Diego History Center:

Some areas of the museum stay the same no matter what time of year. They have a collection of photographs that explore many aspects of San Diego life. You will be able to see automobiles and streetcars that once drove the roads of the area. There is a section dedicated to sports with a heavy emphasis on baseball. Some of the collections show old diners, theatres, and breweries. You will gain a real understanding of how San Diego has grown and changed over the course of the years.

 

Document Archives:

The museum is home of many old documents, books, maps, and other printed materials. They house public records in this section as well. You can really delve into the history of the people in this area. There are unpublished master’s level thesis papers and doctoral dissertations available. This section of the museum is very valuable to educate those that visit the history center.

 

Object Collection:

In collection of objects that the museum owns, you will see many different forms of art and pieces of the history of the area. One section houses period clothing from as early as the 18th century to the present fashions. Everyday household items from different eras are also out on display. You will be able to get a general sense of what life was like in San Diego over the course of the years.
