If you’re looking for something fun to do in San Diego, you should definitely consider checking out the Automotive Museum. With a large collection of over 80 historic cars and motorcycles there is plenty to see at the Automotive Museum. One of the best features of the museum is that it is always changing. Every few months a new exhibition is put in so there will always be something new to see. You will also always be able to find a few classics, such as Frank Sinatra’s 1967 Austin Petrol Hire Car or Louie Mattar’s Fabulous $75,000 Car. These cars are famous and well worth a look.

When should I go?

The Automotive Museum is constantly changing its lineup, so if there is a specific type of car that you want to look at, you should check out their website and plan accordingly. The Museum is free for children under 6, $5 for students and $8.50 for adults; they also offer senior citizen and military discounts.

Make sure you go early; the Museum opens at 10 and closes at 5. There are always many different cars on display so plan your time accordingly.

Are there any tours?

Fortunately there are, the staff are all well knowledgeable about the cars that are on display. They’ll tell you everything from the back story of the car, to the build of the car and why it is so unique. If you’re not a car buff don’t be worried, as the staff will explain all of the interesting facts and details. If you are a car buff however, this museum will be car heaven for you.

Any famous cars I should see?

One of the most talked about cars at the museum is definitely the Delorean that they have on display. If that isn’t really to your tastes you should also check out the prototype Mazda Miata, which looks out of place next to all of the other cars of its day.

Of course the theme of the museum will change often, so if you’d like to know the exact selection available just head on over to their website where they have the cars listed, and the next cars to come.

If you’re looking for something fun to do in San Diego on vacation, or as a family activity, check out the Automotive Museum. You won’t be disappointed by the excellent cars on display, and excellent staff.
