Art that is in the form of photography is an ever changing medium that constantly captures the viewer. The Museum of Photographic Arts in San Diego, California brings in many different forms of photographic art. These exhibits are incredibly stunning and unique. Every six to nine months, the several areas of the photographic artwork are changed out and a new museum experience can be had.

Tours:

The museum has several different tour options that will help you get the full experience while surveying the innovative photographs. You can take a pick between self-guided tours with an audio option that has been put together by museum staff and the photographers. There is also the ability to be led through the exhibits in a docent led tour, which can enhance the experience. For the true art enthusiast, a behind the scenes tour is offered by museum staff. They will lead you through areas of the facility that is not visited by the general public. Whichever tour you chose to go with, plan to spend upwards of two hours viewing the array of pictures.

Exhibits:

Several areas of the museum have traveling exhibits that come through and change out a couple of times a year. However, when you visit, there are some things you can expect to always be there. The facility houses a collection upwards of 7,000 photographs with some of it on display depending on the exhibition. While they own a great deal of work, the museum is rich in many 19th and 20th century pieces by photographers such as: Alfred Stieglitz, Jeremiah Gurney, Lewis Hine, Clarence White, and Peter Henry Emerson, to name a few. You will also see the largest collection of photographs located at any one museum, that were captured during the Stalin era in Russia.

The Museum of Photographic Arts will leave a lasting impression on you and the group you take with you.
