The Museum of Making Music first opened its melody filled halls in the 1990’s and was established by the National Association of Music Merchants (NAMM). It is located at Armada Dr, Carlsbad San Diego, California and is open 5 times a week (Tuesday – Sunday) from 10 a.m. to 5 pm. The Museum of Making music started as members only exhibit but as the demand of the public grew during the following years, the museum made the decision to open its doors to all visitors who wish to enter. NAMM initially established the museum with the sole purpose of being a place for both artists and musical instrument creators to gather. Now, not only is this purpose achieved, it has also branched out to cover a wider audience.

Since its official public opening in 2000, the Museum of Making Music has entertained hundreds to thousands of visitors daily. It has been a favorite destination not only for tourists, but also for students and musicians alike. Music lovers will enjoy the museum’s collection of over 500 historical to modern musical instruments. These musical instruments were collected from various places and culture from around the world. Visitors will also enjoy interacting with special musical consoles as well as trying out several instruments in the exhibit that is available for use by the public. These collections of historical and unique musical instruments are not the only elements that make the Museum of Making Music a treat to visitors, there are special programs and interesting galleries for visitors to visit as well.

The music museum also shows a gallery that represents the six generations of popular modern music through the ages. Travel back to memory lane - starting with the marching band era music, Jazz-era, Blues-era, Wartime Bands, Rock and roll, electronic music up to modern era music. Not only will you be able to enjoy hearing the nostalgic music of yesteryear, the exhibit also describes in detail all the facts associated with that era of music. You will learn how different the marketing and business was for each era and how it gradually evolved into what it is today. This is one of the best museums in the world today. The exhibit also produces 2 special presentations every year; these special events will include workshops and concerts featuring artists from all over the world. Be sure to check their schedules so that you will be able to plan your visit.
