Betsy Ross is one of the most important figures of the American Revolution. She believed in the new American dream and worked hard to help the idea come to life. Her contribution to America and her story are alive and well today in her historic home in Philadelphia. Lucky for us tours and information are still available to the public.

Betsy Ross’s home was not only her home but the home of hundreds of artists and colonial citizens. It was built over 250 years ago in early colonial neighborhood. The home was like many during that time period and stood 3 stories tall with each floor housing one family and a spiral staircase that led to the top of the home. The first floor was generally a shop or tavern that the business owners lived on.

Betsy Ross was an upholster married to John Ross and she constructed the first American flag and presented it to George Washington shortly after the Revolution. Her life was full of struggle and strife, but despite that she carried on knowing and fought for the independence of the American people and supported their efforts wherever she could. Although not completely backed up by evidence, the story of Betsy Ross’ flag is believed by historians to be accurate. If you take a tour of Betsy’s home you start to get the sense that she was the original designer of the Stars and Stripes flag we know today.

Tours are available with a real life Betsy Ross that greets you once your tour is complete. The entire family will love walking in the footsteps of one of America’s most beloved colonial characters. The city of Philadelphia has worked hard to preserve the home and it pays off in a fantastic way for the thousands of tourists that visit the home every year. Make Betsy’s home one of your must see spots during your stay in Philly.
