Art lovers looking for the most impressive collection of modernist art in the world need look no further than the Museum of Modern Art in New York City. All of the categories of modern art are covered, including paintings, sculpture, architecture and even digital media. Add to that the more than 300,000 books in the library museum and you can see why art lovers come from all over the world to view the exhibits.

Located in Midtown Manhattan, the Museum of Modern Art is home to works by over 70,000 different artists. The museum was founded in 1929, although in a different location from where it is now. The Hecksher Building was the original home, but as the collection grew, more space was needed to house all of the pieces. It was in 1939 that the museum finally moved to the 53rd Street location where it still stands today.

The 1980’s saw the current location undergo a massive expansion, which included the addition of an auditorium, a bookstore and a pair of restaurants. To list all of the major pieces that are currently on display in the museum would take much more space than we have here. Rest assured that if you are a fan of modernist art, this is the museum you have to see while on vacation in NYC.
