The Louisiana Children’s Museum opened in 1986. Since then it has helped educate and entertain 147,000 people per year.
Families that come to visit New Orleans often check out the historical sites, which sometimes can be boring to kids. So it’s great to know that the Louisiana Children’s Museum is located on Julia Street to open their mind and keep them busy, too. Locals enjoy the exhibits and activities as much as visitors do.
Kids can participate with interactive exhibits to learn math concepts, improve reading skills, learn about architectural ideas and even learn about grocery shopping, believe it or not.
There are also camps for ages 5-8 and ages 7-9. The programs are designed with the maturity and intellectual development of children in those age groups. The kids learn by doing hands on activities that help them make a connection to the lessons in a way that traditional rote learning can’t quite match.
There are other programs too that are offered on specific days of the week, so when you plan your itinerary keep those days in mind when figuring out which events and programs your youngsters are likely to be interested in checking out:
- Science Activities: Tuesday and Thursday from 11:30 am to 1 pm
- Art Trek: Tuesday through Friday 9:30 am to 3 pm; Saturday 9:30-4
- Toddler time: Tuesday and Thursday at 10:30 am
Kids can experience a fun birthday at the LCM, which includes a 90 minute rental Party room and free admission for 20 guests along with 25 adults to supervise them. There are three different plans that include Birthday Blast without upgrades, Birthday Blow out with an upgrade for a Birthday parade and treats, or the Big Time Birthdays, that include set up by the staff instead of the parents, party treats, and party theme options. Big time Birthdays an upgrade of 30 children and 35 accompanying adults.
