New Orleans’ famous Audubon Buttery Garden and Insectarium is a fantastic destination for families with aspiring etymologists! Named for the world-renowned naturalist and painter, James John Audubon, this is one of the most interesting attractions in Louisiana.
Don’t forget to check out these must-see exhibits during your visit!
It’s A Bug’s Life
The world famous insectarium is a real treat for both kids and adults. There’s a lot of misconceptions and fear surrounding insects, but visitors leave with a new appreciation for leafcutter ants, exotic cockroaches, spooky spiders, bugs from Louisiana’s own wetlands, and nearly 900,000 more curious species!
During your visit, you should take a quick break to enjoy the Insectarium’s own feature film, Awards Night. This exclusive movie even features the voices of legendary comedian Joan Rivers and Brad Garrett from Everybody Loves Raymond. Follow the showbiz journey of your favorite superstar bugs as they compete at the biggest awards show of the year!
The Butterfly Garden offers visitors a rare opportunity to watch thousands of vibrant butterflies take flight in a lush yet open environment. And expect to make a few new friends on your trip! It’s not uncommon for these gorgeous butterflies to hangout on the shoulders of wandering tourists and children.
Hungry? Why wait? Just head on over to the Insectarium’s very own Bug Appetite Café! Edible bugs are actually a great source of protein. And when cooked to perfection, they’re a delicious snack or even a yummy dessert!
But don’t expect slimy, squirmy bugs at this café. All their tasty insects treats are prepared by real master chefs. Plus, families and visitors can even get the inside scoop on the secret recipes behind insect gourmet!
