Things To See And Do In Los Angeles
There are many great cities in the United States that make for incredible tourist destinations, but there may be nine more diverse than Los Angeles. Most tourism ads will try to lure you in by saying that their city has a little something for everyone, but none can match the sightseeing options that are available in the City of Angels. We could literally write volumes about the things to see and do there, but instead we have narrowed it down to a few must see attractions that should make their way on to every traveler’s to do list.
You can’t talk about Los Angeles without mentioning Hollywood, as the famous sign is perhaps the most iconic landmark in the world. You can’t help but think of all the major movie stars, new and old, that have made movie magic in the shadow of that sign. Taking a walk along Hollywood Boulevard is like taking a trip back in time. It’s fun to try and pick out your favorite stars on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, and more fun still to place your hands and feet in the plaster casts made by major stars outside the iconic Grauman’s Chinese Theater. That is also the spot where you can hop on a bus and take a tour of the celebrity homes that line the streets of Beverly Hills. It’s a cheesy ride, but it’s also undeniably fun.
The streets of Hollywood aren’t the only way to see the stars in Los Angeles, which is why you should take time to visit the amazing Griffith Observatory. It’s location on Mount Hollywood offers stunning views of the surrounding area, but it is also home to a planetarium and exhibits that space lovers are sure to get a kick out of. The area surrounding the observatory is home to a number of great trails where you can hike, bike, or travel on horseback. It’s a fun way to get back to nature while still being in the heart of the city.
Los Angeles is a mecca for sports fans, with a number of different professional sports teams to choose from. Traveling to L.A. at any time of the year means that you will be able to land tickets to at least one of the following professional sports franchises: the Lakers and Clippers of the NBA, the Kings of the NHL, and the Dodgers of MLB. It’s definitely a good idea to book ahead of time if you want to get on the Los Angeles sports action.
It’s not all fast paced excitement in L.A., though, and you will have plenty of time to relax on one of the many great beaches that are in the surrounding area. Each of the beaches has its own distinct style: Malibu is home to the surf crowd, whereas Venice Beach is famous for the folks that go there to work out and show off their muscles. Santa Monica may be your best choice if traveling with kids, as it is home to the legendary Santa Monica Pier, where you can ride the rollercoasters or just soak up some of that wonderful California sun.
