Mesa Verde National Park is a national park located in the state of Colorado. It is one of the best archeological areas in the United States with its cliff dwellings, mesas, and canyons.
There are many different and historic buildings for you to see (these are amazing!), trails for you to hike, a museum for you to enjoy and restaurants for you to dine in.

Mesa Verde was a settlement chosen 1,400 years ago by the Puebloans. The Puebloans built their cities around the cliffs around the year of 1200. They left around 100 years later though and history is still unsure as to why they left.
How is the weather at Mesa Verde National Park?
This national park is hot in the Summer months with temperatures often around 90 degrees Fahrenheit or higher. Night time in the Summer months are usually around 50 to 60 degrees Fahrenheit.
In the Winter months, the temperature is usually around 40 degrees Fahrenheit.
Even though this national park is located in the desert, snow is possible.
What you should know before you visit this national park.
This national park is a lot of fun, and there are a few things that you should know to make your trip more enjoyable. These include:
- It can get very hot in the Summer months. This means that you should bring a lot of water. The trails can be tiring and you might have to climb ladders to see some of the different buildings.
- The months of July and August usually have a lot of rain in the evenings.
- If you want to visit the sites directly, then you will need to buy a ticket to a guided tour. If you do not have a ticket, then you will have to view it from a little further away.
- The Mesa Verde National Park is open all year long, but many of the activities that you are probably interested in are actually only open in the months from April to October of each year. Activities that are open all year long include the museum at the national park, the Spruce Tree Restaurant, and the Spruce Tree House.
How much does it cost to visit the Mesa Verde National Park?
The park entrance fee for non-commercial cars from January to May (please check their website for the specific dates) is $10. From the middle of May to September the fee is $15. This entrance fee is valid for seven days.
If you visit the park during the January to May months by bike, motorcycle, or hiking, the fee is $5. From May to September this fee increases slightly to $8 person.
You can also buy a Mesa Verde Annual Pass for $30. If you have an America the Beautiful Series Pass, then you can gain entry without paying an extra fee, but if you are interested in a tour then you will still have to pay for that.
How much is a tour?
As stated above, if you want to gain direct access to the archaeological sites, then you should think about buying a guided tour.
From January to May and September to December, the fee is $25, plus an additional $5 for each person 16 years and older. Between May to September, the fee is $25, plus $8 for each person 16 years and older.
