Soon, we are leaving for a vacation to Gulf Shores in the state of Alabama. I have never been, but I know of many others who have made the trip down there. This is a last minute spontaneous trip for us, and we are very excited!

It is around a 12.5 hour drive from St. Louis, Missouri. It is a long drive, but we wanted something within driving distance as we are bringing both of our dogs, and wanted to be more comfortable by having our own car with us as well so that we can go wherever we want and have a fun road trip while we are at it.

Gulf Shores is a popular beach destination in the United States. It has many beautiful beaches with beautiful white sand. The beaches in Gulf Shores, Alabama are popular with many different groups: families, young adults, honeymooners, couples, seniors and so on.

Gulf Shores has a population of nearly 10,000, but has grown significantly from just 10 years ago when there were only approximately 5,000 people living in the city. During the Summer, the city can be a little more crowded as the weather is near perfect and it is a popular place for Summer vacations. Also, during the Winter, there are many people from colder areas in the country who escape to Gulf Shores for warmer weather.

Tourism plays a big part in the city of Gulf Shores. However, the BP oil spill in the year of 2010 really hurt tourism in the area of Gulf Shores. It has rebounded since then and there are many things to do in the city, so don't let the oil spill stop you from visiting the city!

When visiting Gulf Shores, you are able to go ocean fishing, visit the many beaches, go on small day cruises, attend a dinner cruise, watch turtles (but don't get too close), watch dolphins and so on. There are also two highly-known golf resorts in the area.
