Whether you are planning a vacation consisting of a couple of days in New York, or a somewhat long vacation of maybe a week or so, there are many things to do while in New York City. One popular attraction is Times Square in New York City. Adults, couples, the retired, children, and so on are all in awe of Times Square. It is truly a sight to see.

History of Times Square in New York City

Time Square in New York City was formerly called Longacre Square. Times Square was renamed in April of the year of 1904 after newspaper company, The New York Times, moved its headquarters to the newly constructed building.

Times Square Today

Today, this building is now named One Times Square. It might also sound familiar because it is the site of the popular annual celebratory ball drop on New Year's Eve where many people are in attendance.

Time Square's Location

Times Square is a very large commercial intersection and it is also a neighborhood in Midtown Manhattan in New York City, New York.  

Times Square is located at the intersection of Broadway and Seventh Avenue.  It goes from West 42nd to West 47th Streets. It is very hard to miss.

Times Square is a very large intersection and is one of the world's busiest walking areas.  It is also a major center of the world's entertainment industry.

How many people visit Times Square each day? Each year?

As stated above, Times Square is a very popular attraction for New York City visitors. It is the world's most visited tourist attraction. Over 30,000,000 people visit Times Square every year. Around 300,000 visitors travel to Times Square everyday.  These aren't all tourists though. Many work in the area or are from New York City.

Since there are so many visitors, many companies realized that this was the perfect place to place billboards. The very large and futuristic-looking billboards are what helps make Times Square such a highly-visited attraction in New York City.

Times Square is home to many large companies - such as the MTV headquarters, and also over 100 restaurants and stores.

Parking and Getting to Times Square in New York City

To get to Times Square, you most likely do not want to drive there in your own car. It is a very busy attraction and there are better and more efficient ways to travel to Times Square.

Visitors can travel to Times Square by taking the subway to the 42nd Street Times Square Station. There are also many buses that take over 200,000 people each day to a location very close to Times Square.

Taking a taxi is also possible. This is probably better than driving your own vehicle to Times Square as driving and parking can both be hectic.

Bringing children to Times Square

There are many things to do at Times Square if you have children. There is an M&M World (which is always a hit!), a large Toys R Us, a Ferris wheel, a Barbie house, and so on. Kids love Times Square, so don't be afraid to take them here.
