Many people tend to think of the southern states as being laid back and relaxing, but Atlanta, Georgia does all that it can to dispel that myth. Considered by many to be the home of hip-hop music, Atlanta is an exciting city that has many great attractions that are great for a family vacation. The city has been riding the wave of tourism since the 1996 Olympics, with many new attractions going in since that time.
One of the newest spots in the city that is an absolute must visit is the Georgia Aquarium. The massive facility is home to all sorts of marine life, but it’s actually possible to spend an entire day in the room where you can sit and view the massive tank from an underwater level. It may very well be the most relaxing place in the entire city.
Sitting next door to the aquarium is the World of Coca-Cola, where you can get interactive with your favorite soft drink. The facility goes into detail about the history of the soda, but the highlight of the tour may be the spot where you get to taste Coke’s from all over the world. You’ll be surprised at just how different each one tastes.
Atlanta is also a great spot to visit for those that love sports. During the spring and summer months you will have no problem getting a great ticket to take in a Braves baseball game, although you may have a tougher time with getting a seat for football, with the Falcons and Georgia Bulldogs both very popular in the city.
There is also a great history in the city, and there may be no better place to take that in that at Stone Mountain. You can take a cable car to the top in order to get magnificent views, or simply stroll through the park where you will find stores and attractions that are like a step back in time. Atlanta is the perfect mix of the old and new south and is well worth a visit.
