Children don’t normally like to go to a museum silently looking at things they don’t understand. Does that mean there should be separate museums for children that caters to their needs and narrates the stories in the ever lovable colorful style? Yes and if you are in Chicago, you don’t have to go too far.
The Chicago Children’s Museum, founded in 1982, is located at the famous Navy Pier and can guarantee you fun and hours of entertainment with your children. You can come here to explore three floors where you can live in a tree house, jump, and play while rediscovering your own childhood.
The museum regularly organizes fairs and festivals, both inside and outside their premises. One of the ‘out of the premises’ attractions includes the ‘Kids on the Fly’ aviation themed playroom for children at the Chicago O’Hare international airport.
The museum is open daily from 10 am to 5 pm. Members and children under one years of age are allowed free entry while children above one and adults pay $12 each. Senior citizens have to pay $11 each. The first Sunday of every month is free for everyone under the age of 15. Not only this, if you plan a family night for 15 people or more on a Thursday evening, you can get free admission for everyone.
The Chicago Children’s Museum has a lot to offer to children as well as their parents. There are regular events as well as permanent exhibits for children to play and have fun. Cardboard adventures called Unbox, Tinkering Lab, Skyline, Schooner, Kids Town, Tree house Trails and Dinosaur expedition are one of the many attractions that will not only keep the kids engaged, but would also help them in developing a keen understanding of various fields like science, mathematics, literature and performing arts.
Whether you are bringing along toddlers to pay Fish in the River or slightly older children to play in the BIG Backyard, the museum will give you the opportunity to mix just the right amount of work into play. There are special spaces for each age group which will help your kids mingle with other kids and develop great learning habits together. The children learn to innovate, ask questions and discover new and interesting objects around them. The environment of these customized spaces is to instill community values through intelligently crafted challenges that help develop the young brains.
As mentioned earlier, numerous events and activities are scheduled in the museum calendar throughout the year. You can check the schedule on their website and be a part of these workshops and activities. The museum is the second largest children’s museum in the country and the annual footfall is a whopping 675,000, making it a top priority for visitors in Chicago.
