Shakespeare for many people is a thing of the past with archaic language. This theatre brings it to the present and makes the language breathe fresh air.
The mission of the Shakespeare Tavern Playhouse is to make the language of the Elizabethan Era come alive for the modern ear. The theatre is raw and real like it was in Shakespeare time with homemade costumes and natural manners of the performers that take the usually grandiose performance of the Bard’s work most people associate with his plays.
The relaxed atmosphere on the stage continues into the audience seating area with authentic British Pub Cuisine and Irish Ale. The Tavern opens an hour and 15 minutes before performances to allow diners to get their food and drink before curtain time so come early and ready for a good meal along with a great Shakespearean performance.
The Seating arrangement consists of three tiers: Main Floor, Box Seats and Balcony. The main floor and box seats have tables and chairs for comfortable dining; the balcony has chairs with ample space for trays. For those who cannot climb stairs it is best to select seating on the main floor, which is wheelchair accessible.
Seating is first come, first served so come early if you have a place you prefer to enjoy the performance views. Adult tickets are $20 and Student tickets are $15. Seniors (65+) and Military personnel enjoy a $3 ticket discount for any section except on Sundays in the Balcony section.
Groups of 10 or more people can also receive a $3 discount for any section, except the Balcony on Sundays. Group Tickets must be purchased 48 hours before the performance.
Box office hours are Tuesday-Saturday 1-6; Sundays 3-5. Regular performances are Thursday, Friday, and Saturday at 7:30; Sundays at 6:30. Special performances for seasonal productions vary, so please check the official website for details. Matinees are available at 10 am for students on most Tuesdays and Wednesdays during the school year at $14 a ticket.
In addition to performances the theater offers educational programs to boost interest in the theater, including:
- Interactive classroom play shops
- Study guides
- In-school and after-school residency
