Perfect for presidential history buffs and young visitors alike, the museum library alone holds more than 27 million paper documents!  Plus, visitors have access to a massive collection of audio, footage, photos and objects totaling well over 500,000.

There’s a lot to view and read at Atlanta’s Carter museum, so be sure to check out these must-see exhibits during your visit!

Special Library Attractions

The Carter library boasts an impressive full-scale model replica of the renowned Oval Office, plus visitors can also view a detailed replica of the famous Resolute Desk!  Built in the 19th century, the legendary Resolute Desk that still lives in the White House today was originally a gift to former President Rutherford B. Hayes from Queen Victoria.  This special exhibit is an absolute treat for anyone curious or passionate about U.S history.

Gifts from Heads of State!

This intriguing exhibit houses the various gifts that Jimmy Carter received from foreign leaders worldwide.  This long-practiced tradition of cultural gift exchange is a recognized act of diplomacy amongst global leaders, dating back to the 16th century and possibly further.

During his administration, Jimmy Carter asked that state governors contribute items significant to their state’s culture.  What President Carter received in exchange gave way to the impressive “Gifts From Heads of State” exhibit on view today.  Among these special gifts include a luxurious rug from the Shah, plus exquisite jewelry given to Roselyn Carter during Jimmy’s term.

Don’t forget to explore the museum’s famous garden grounds, their delightful Jimmy Carter Store, and its critically acclaimed architecture as well!
